Krishna Janmashtami with Sri Swami Vishwananda

Prem Se Bolo Sri Krishna Kanhaiyalala Ki!

Important - change of date from 28th evening to the 27th evening!!! there will also be a day long celebration on the 28th August. See the BM calendar!

Come and celebrate with us one of the most auspicious nights of the whole year! Janmashtami also known as Gokulashtami marks the celebration of the birth of Lord Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna was born in the 'Rohini' Nakshatram (star) to King Vasudeva and Devaki Devi on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Sravana. This festival is also known as Sri Krishna Jayanti and Krishnashtmi. The actual day of celebration can be on two different days as the star 'Rohini' and Ashtami may not be on the same day. These days correspond to the August and September months in the Gregorian calendar.

Sri Krishna is considered as the eighth avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu, (one of three major Hindu Gods) on earth. He is considered to be the Lord's most glorious incarnation. It is said that His true remembrance brings extreme
joy and pleasure because Sri Krishna Himself was a manifestation of joy at all levels and in all walks of life. No other God in the Hindu pantheon, or for that matter in any other religion, is associated with so many romantic tales and so
fully radiating with all the Divine attributes as Sri Krishna.

Here now the Program which we worked out with Swamiji:

  • 27th August:  22:00 Prayers with Sri Swami Vishwananda in the temple, at midnight Abishek and Bhajans - end about 2:00 early morning
  • 28th August: 10:00 in the morning Yagna outside or inside the tent (depends on the weather)
  • at about 15:00 Sri Swami Vishwananda will talk and explain about Krishna and will read from the Bhagavat Gita and Shrimad Bhagavatam
  • 19:00 will follow some Krishna-Leela plays, bhajans, dancing and final Arati

More information visit the English blog.

We will celebrate by singing songs depicting the life and early years of Sri Krishna leading up to midnight. All of these songs are tinged with the salve of Love since He Himself was an incarnation of Divine Love. This was His main attribute that he demonstrated. At midnight on the 27th August we will conduct abhishekam to baby Krishna and finish around 1 o'clock in the morning on the 28th August with Arati.
