Prayers & Puja Workshops
We run several different types of workshops. Mainly the workshops that are taught are oriented towards learning how to do Hindu Ceremonial Prayer. We also teach a music workshops for those people wanting to learn how to sing and play bhajans and kirtan.
We teach the following workshops:
- Simple Puja Course (a beginners course in learning how to take care of a statue of a deity)
- Abhishekam Course (learning how to conduct Abhishekam)
- Yagna Course (learning how to conduct yagna)
- Music Workshop (learning how to play a musical instrument to be able to sing and play bhajan and kirtans)
Simple Puja Course
This course is aimed for those individuals that feel that they want to forge a closer relationship to the Divine. The students on this course learn how to conduct a simple ceremonial prayer or puja to a statue or picture of the deity that they feel close to. This course can be taught within a few hours and helps the individual to understand the purpose and symbolism within the puja ceremony.
Usually this course is taught for a group or small group and often is held in the person(s) home. The ceremony that is taught is a short prayer and is good for those people who are at the beginning of being interested in learning Hindu ceremonies. The prayer that is learned by the student does not take long and can easily be fitted into a busy person’s full-day schedule. The prayer itself is very easy to learn - anyone can take it up and incorporate into their daily life!
If you are interested in organising a course in your area please send an e-mail to Vishwakeshavaananda@bhaktimarga.org stating that you would like to set up a Simple Puja course in your area.
This course gives the individual a good grounding and understanding of the symbolism and purpose of the Hindu ceremony of Abhishekam. The course is normally taught during a morning or afternoon (4 to 5 hours in length).
In the workshop you will be given a workshop booklet containing information about:
- Worship of the Divine
- Establishment of oneself in the Divine
- Murthi Worship
- Abhishekam – a step by step guide
This course is taught in a very flexible way in that this can be taught in mind for those people wanting to go deeper into learning and connecting through the Abhishekam ceremony for their deity at home or for those who are venerating deities in a temple.
Full explanations are given relating to the ceremony from beginning to end and instruction is given on each step of the ceremony. It is advised that the participants on the course arrange to obtain if they do not already have one – a statue of their chosen deity that they will learn to do abhishekam to during the course. This course is great for those people who really want to learn how to take care of their deity by doing abhishekam. Abhishekam is a ceremony that can really help bring you in tune with your deity and bring you into communion with the Divine. The ceremony itself brings benefit to yourself and to all present during the ceremony and the surrounding space in which the ceremony takes place. So it is a great ceremony to do at home and in the temple!
